Murrieta Hot Springs has served visitors for over a century and a half, from its original use by Native people to its development as a geothermal resort offering thermal pools, mineral springs and wellness programs.
Thermal springs bubble from the earth beneath Murrieta, attracting people for thousands of years before European settlement. The springs were valued by the Luiseño people, who used them for bathing and therapeutic treatments passed down through generations. After American settlement, commercial development began in 1884 when the Temecula Land & Water Company built the first hotel and bathhouse to serve visitors traveling between Los Angeles and San Diego.
Over the past century and a half, Murrieta Hot Springs has operated continuously as a destination for wellness and recreation, drawing visitors seeking the therapeutic properties of geothermal pools and mineral springs. Today the resort features over fifty geothermal pools on 46 acres, including contrast-bathing experiences and wellness programming, preserving the tradition of community healing that the springs have represented since long before the city's name was written on maps.
